Distinctive primitive table

A remarkable little table of unusual form, with rectangular thick top over four chamfered supports, with a circular base and three chamfered stick legs. Though the base is of a known type I have not seen it with a rectangular top before, and it gives the piece a podium - esque appearance. It is constructed of ash legs and uprights, and , unusually, a beech top and base, the warm caramel patina it has acquired adds to the overall lightness this interesting piece emanates. A sculptural and highly individual table.

The condition is very good and stable with excellent surface, there is some ancient worm damage to the top which beech is susceptible to, but it is long dead and the holes buried under years of wax polish and patina

British. Circa 1800

Height 66.5 cm ( 26”)

Width 43.5 cm (17”)

Depth 35.5 cm (14”)
