early coffer

£1,950.00

A rare dome top coffer in oak with fine original decorative ironwork allowing for four locks to be fitted, this well constructed chest has plank construction with moulded decoration, the robust carrying handles suggest it was for transportation of valuables, the four lock hasps are likely to necessitate the presence of more than one person to open it. It is likely to have been made for a guild or church to hold funds or perhaps silverware. It is a good smaller size and has a superb natural surface patina.
